LAGOS COMMENCES RECONSTRUCTIONOF DAMAGED ALAPERE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

During a visit to the bridge by a team comprising Lagos State Government Officialsfrom the Office of Infrastructure and the Contractor, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola said an assessment and the necessary integrity tests on the bridge has been conducted, to ascertain the level of reconstruction works to be carried out on the bridge to make it appropriate for continued public use.

According to the Special Adviser, based on the results of the tests carried out, a new design for the bridge with increased vehicular headroom is ready for implementation. Recall that, the damage to the bridge which was constructed eleven years ago was caused by the impact of a container-laden truck, that tried to manoeuvre under the bridge bearing a load that was far beyond the provided headroom of the Bridge thereby causing a negative impact to both vehicular traffic and pedestrian users of the Bridge.
